My Reading Week | 25th - 31st October | Halloween Reads | Rivers Solomon, Samra Habib & Catriona Ward

OCT, 25th - Finished Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon. This is a strange yet poignant read in which Solomon interweaves a fantastical tale with both social commentary and critique. It was a bit slow at times but Solomon's writing was, as always, phenomenal. They are becoming an author I will always read no matter what they publish.

OCT, 27th - This morning as I was drinking my coffee, I read the last two chapters of We Have Always Been Here: A Queer Muslim Memoir by Samra Habib. Very accesible to read thanks to its simple and plain writing style, Habib's memoir deals primarily with her identity, her sense of belonging, her queerness and her relationship with Islam. She doesn't dive deep into certain issues and I respect her decision despite feeling some elements could've been explored more for a more rounded narrative.

OCT, 31st - Early morning today I read the last pages of The Last House on Needless Street. What a read! I didn't know where this story would go but it wasn't definitely where it ended up going; and I say that as a positive thing. I'll say the first third of the book was a bit challenging: the narrative was not dense but it is full of "holes", elements that are difficult to comprehend. So, instead of trying to comprehend everything I was reading I let the story guide me to avoid frustration. It has been a different and interesting read. Very good one actually.

Vintage Classics: Brontë Series

Maybe you don’t know this about me but I collect different edition of Jane Eyre and when I learnt that Vintage was releasing the new Brontë series I just couldn’t say no.

April 2017

And another month goes by. To be fair, this time it didn't fly around for me; it was quite a slow month in general and I spent half of it reading - I can't even believe I have managed to read all of these books -  and half of it studying for University. I'm all caught up with all my courses and I'm ready to start revising for finals which will be at the end of May/beginning of June. I'm still in awe that for once in my life, I've being productive as hell if I say so myself. Hurray! Basically I wrote down all I had to do and I organised it throughout the first three weeks of April. At the same time I told myself I had to read for fun at least 30 minutes every single day in order to avoid being slumpy due to stress. It worked.

The Gif Tag!

Jess over at My Reading Dress – seriously, go follow her! – tagged me a while ago to do the Gif Tag and I haven’t been able to post it earlier because I have no clue about technology and I couldn’t make the gifs work so I had to investigate a bit. Also, I haven’t read most of the books of the list. I really hope this works out alright so without further ado, let’s get started! Oh, I might have used more than one gif for some of the books...
