My Reading Week | 27th September - 3rd October

SEPT 27th - Did I manage to read at least half of Dune before going to watch the movie? Nope. I managed to get to page 178 - I am enjoying the book, btw. But I went to watch it and gosh, it was amazing! You have to pay attention from minute 1 to the end but I think Villeneuve has made a great job at presenting such a vast world in an understandable way. My sister came with me and she loved the film as well despite knowing nothing of the world. The music and cinematography? *chef's kiss*

SEPT, 30th - As a way to celebrate the last day of the month I have finished The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich. I read it in Spanish through the library and I have to say it was a good one. The first half of the story I enjoyed more than the second half, in which I felt the story deflated a bit. If you are interested in a full wrap-up for September you can check it out HERE.

OCT, 1st - October is here! Cosy vibes all the way! Early nights, a blanket and hot chocolate: that's my routine. In other news, since this is a bookish blog, I finally finished part 1 of Dune. It took me awhile, mainly because Herbert's writing style is so dry and kind of outdated that it takes me forever to get through a couple of pages. BUT - and it is a bit but - I am intrigued and invested by the story. Can't deny I bloody love a good political intrigue.

OCT, 2nd - I decided to continue with Heartstopper volume 3 and basically read it in one sitting. And my god did things escalate quickly. This volume deals with darker and more difficult and mature topics like self-harm and eating disorders but it does it in a way that doesn't break your heart. It teaches you important lessons but it doesn't do it in a devastating way. On the contrary, it is a story that gives you hope and yes, some people might say it is cheesy (unrealistic even) but these stories are so necessary: it portrays a healthy relationship and oh gosh, it is so refreshing and far from the toxic storylines most of us are used to. It was so great to keep getting to know this characters a little bit more and also grow with them. Cannot wait to see what volume 4 has in store.

OCT, 3rd - Not finished any more of my reads but I did manage to get through part iii of Book I in War&Peace. Haven't touched the book in 10 days and literally ate up the whole of part iii in one sitting.

As a whole, week has been quite good: managed to finish 2 books and made some progress with both Dune and War&Peace (finally!). I also started Winter; keeping my promise of continuing with Ali Smith's seasonal quartet.

Hope you all have a wonderful week and HAPPY READING!

Reading Diary | February Books | 2018

Feb, 1st - 15:15. Finished the second book in the first volume of the Riyria Revelations and I was pleasantly surprised. I still think the world building is the weakest thing about the story because it's not greatly developed but the story is well-written and entertaining. I'm planning on continuing reading the series because now I'm intrigued enough to want to know how everything will unfold. Feb, 7th - 10:33.  I'm finally prepared to go and see the movie Call Me By Your Name because I just finished reading the novel. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It is a celebration of love and an exploration of sex and identity. It's quite explicit though so if you feel uncomfortable with that keep it in mind if you're planning on reading it. My full review of the book is HERE (I also talk a little bit about the movie).
